Macbook + Sail training DVD\'s

Trying to source Dayskipper/Coastal/Yachtmaster training course DVDs that will run on a Macbook.

Any suggestions or URLs would be appreciated.

It might keep me out of the bars while I am away on the job! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Many ta's!

Re: Macbook + Sail training DVD\'s

The only RYA dvd I have is the free diesel engine one, which plays fine on a Mac. Some dvd's intended for a windows computer are playable if you dig around in the files and find the video_ts ones - you might need Flip4mac, VLC or Handbrake to play them, and you might need to work out the correct running order.
What you really need is for someone to post a screenshot of the directory structure of a typical RYA dvd - you can then hazard a guess as to whether it will play normally, whether you can access the files manually or whether it's in some weird proprietary 'Windows-only' format.

Puzzled by this. Any DVD should run on a mac just the same as a PC. Unless it is formated as a 'data' disk with windows specific navigation and not as a dvd- surely no-one would do that? Would they ?

Anything further from the computer nerds/and gurus out there?

It would also be helpful if someone could recommend a particular training course DVD.

Many thanks

Re: Macbook + Sail training DVD\'s

Why not get in touch with the relevant training video company and ask them directly about Mac compatibility? As WS says, a normal DVD will play on any platform, not just windows.
Also, have a look at http://www.macsailing.net/fbb/ - there may be an existing post, otherwise it would be worth signing up and asking for some recommendations.

srp:

Thanks for the Mac URL.I'll look at that.

I contacted one vendor and they said their product would not play on a Mac. I am puter stoopid but I was under the impression the new Macbooks would crunch just about anything hence asking here for confirmation.

I'll keep digging!
