Those of you in the Smoke already know, but for those who are travelling the M25 between Surrey and Berkshire DON'T. Roadworks start Monday and it will make travelling by car even harder than it already is to the boatshow, happy chaos!!
Guess it could be Red Kens Revenge, coz if you want to miss it you'll have to pay the £5.00 congestion charge to go through the City. I travelled from the Dartford tunnel to M4 in less than an hour today!! It'll be a while before I can do that again!!!

Hope you dont mind me adding a little to your post but feel a little more sprecific info might be helpful.
The M25 widening works directly affects the stretch between Junction 12 (M3) and Junction 15 (M4) in both directions and will take 2 years ! ! !
Exactly what the knock on effect will be further away from this section will take some time to establish. As swmbo travels this route westwards every day no doubt i will soon be in a position to add more definitive info as the week progresses/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I dont believe they plan to reduce the number of lanes although I guess the lanes will be narrowed and, of course, this will be the ideal oppurtunity for Plod to zealously pursue those vicious criminals amongst us who might stray a mph or two over the limit.
Anyway, since the purpose of the works is to increase the number of lanes, we should'nt complain too much

If they narrow the lanes on the M25 as they did on the M40 a few years back, anyone speeding in the very narrow lanes should be imprisoned !! Driving alongside a 40' truck who has a concrete barrier 6" from his wing mirror and you 6" from his trailor wheels is pretty scary. One accident and the road will be shut for hours causing major grief to thousands of drivers - just because one prat doesn`t think the rules apply to him !

Good point. But the big truck on the M25 will often have foreign plates, sometimes different plates on the front of the truck than on the back. There is a good risk of being sideswiped by these as being left hand drive they can't see you easily, especially if you sit in that outer lane at the regulation 40 or 50 mph with the tuck doing the smae speed on the inside BUT the no speeding rule applies, so you should stick resolutely at the limit and not try to move ahead, and just accept that being whammed by dozing foreign drivers is part of the deal.

I would agree with you entirely if Plod dealt with equal vigour with other dangerous practices, particularly in roadwork sections, such as tailgating, bad lane discipline and as tcm points out, sideswiping by foreign trucks which, according to a recent TV programme, is the fast growing cause of motorway accidents

Thanks Tony
I could'nt remember the specifics at the time I was told ,I was trying to avoid being shunted of the road by a bloody great lorry who could'nt make up his mind what lane he should be in!!!
Also this stretch of road includes access to Heathrow as well or was that just an added bit of extra work that was being prepared yesterday???
I for one will not be heading that way for a good while

Basic Drive & Survive bit is "To NEVER sit by the side of a vehicle bigger than you" especially in narrow lanes.
By the way the reason continental wagons have a different number plate on the tractor to the trailer is that the trailer is registered seperately as a different vehicle.
