I currently have a fixed VHF, an AIS Radar and a SH 175 chart plotter. The AIS will not interface with the chart plotter and I could install an AIS engine to do that, but another option is to install the M-Tech which will show up on the chart plotter (if they are compatible), lose the second ariel and give me more space at the chart table.

So, two questions if anyone out there can help

1. Has anyone put the M-Tech 550 and SH 175 together and was it successful?

2. Not many of the main online chandlers seem to stock/sell the M-Tech 550 - is there any reason for this i.e. reliability?

I have fitted the Radio Ocean RO4800 and am very happy with it feeding AIS to the plotter and taking GPS position from it. The remote hand set is a nice upgrade if required but like the M-Tech the mic has a decent layout with numerical keys for easy use.

I previously had a simple M-Tech VHF and was quite happy with it but I don't believe there is a remote handset option for the 550.

I didn't think the CP175 was capable of displaying AIS data, have you checked?

I am quite taken with the pricing and capabilities of the RO4800. Nowhere in the literature however does it talk about alarms for CPA and TCPA. I sail solo and would be interested in two things:
1: Does it show CPA and TCPA?
2: How loud are the alarms if they exist?

I have previously used a Vesper Transponder on a Pacific crossing and thought it and its alarms were wonderful. But the price is beyond my budget.
