Lymington to Yarmouth Ferry.

I guess they’ve been around for a while but wasnt there a jet driven boat that tried to do the same but didn’t last?

Scoot. It was a catamaran. I don't recall if it was outboards or outdrives. But defo not jets. The boat was brand new, very posh, I recall they leased it. I thought from the begining that their approach was wrong. The income was never going to pay for such an expensive boat. Only lasted a few months.

...I remember them... weren't they doing a similar thing for Cowes to Pompey?

Pretty sure they were jets as they were looking for skippers at one point and I considered coming back for the winter as my compant was using them and I was considering the experience.

At the time (2014/2016) I think, they also ran service from Cowes to Portsmouth which was great for me as I had a business in Portsmouth. I mistakenly bought a book of tickets and sadly didn't get to use them all before they went pop. There must have been about 25 seats on it with never more than maybe 8 0nboard even in the morning 'rush hour', it went from Trinity Landing to Camber.

Shame these small outfits don’t last.

I considered something similar here with the support of the big operator but don’t think it would have worked unfortunately.

When I lived on th IOW I loved Red Funnel even though they were further away. But from the age of about 5 the hovercraft was unbeatable if no car.

Solent Cruises are worth a mention, they do a weekly return Saturday crossing from Cowes to Gunwharf, ( viruses aside) Tuesdays and Thursdays too in school holidays. No use for commuters but also to their credit they've been ferrying urgent stretchered hospital cases across the Solent in bad weather when the Hover wasn't running.

Yup the Yarmouth Lymington one was deffo jets. The 12 pax limitation really means you can’t scale up to cope with demand peaks.

Coral Star is £20 return for adults and £15 for children.

So for our family of 3 it would be £55 return.

As Island dwellers we buy 10 crossings for Wightlink at a time. £275. £27.50 each. So a crossing with the car is £55.

I wish Coral Star well, she's a lovely old tub.
