I have a shiny new LVR880 bought in the UK and according to the manual theres only two versions; EU and US, but mine is labelled LVR-880E on the unit itself. I specifically wanted this so it had ATIS as well as DSC functionality and have had my license modified accordingly but on the DSC menu there's only options for putting in MMSI number and not a word about ATIS. I havent put the MMSI number in yet just in case I have to return in but is that stopping the ATIS options from showing or is the missing U at the end of the model number the problem ?

It is possible that once you activate the MMSI number this will switch in the ability to switch on either ATIS or MMSI. If you have your docs from Ofcom you will see that your ATIS number is the same as the MMSI but with an added 9 at the front.

Double check the manual that the function is fitted but waiting for activation. Remember that it is not legal to use MMSI functions in ATIS areas likewise it is not legal to transmit Atis in UK waters so the function will be either or!

The manual clearly shows atis and dsc items on the menu even before the mmsi is entered, I dont want to enter the mmsi and then find the unit cant be returned because then its locked. I really need someone who's got an LVR880E with their mmsi programmed in to tell me if it then shows an atis option. Ive put a message in to lowrance via their website so hopefully will find out that way if no one knows.

The missing U may be a problem however it is not unusual for the model numbers on products to not be identical on both manual and product. Might be wise to chat to Lowrance in case you have got hold of a pre ATIS radio packed with the wrong manual.

Some one may pop up here who has the same radio and knows!!!

Looking at below it seems there have been various versions all of which had just the number 880 on the front. Is it possible the radio you got is not
the latest model as the manual certainly says only the 880EU has the Atis facility.

Turns out that if you buy one in Germany or Holland ATIS is enabled out of the box but for the UK its disabled as default and can only be enabled by obtaining an RMA authorisation from Navico and sending it back to be reprogrammed with a copy of the ATIS notice of license variation from Ofcom. So it looks like I'm going to be without my radio for x days/weeks. Unimpressed.

A really good dealer/repair man should be able to access the service menu and set up your requirements.
Better still he could tell you how to do it (mine did for my Furuno)
Let's face it if you go back and forth between the european canals and UK you're going to have to change it to be legal...(you can change things as many times as you want once you've got master access)

Once its been enabled, its easy to switch between DSC and ATIS modes which are mutually exclusive so there's virtually no possiblity of accidentally using the wrong system at sea/on canals and so no reason to send it back again so hoping this is a one in a lifetime problem. Its still not clear though if there's a charge ( other than the postage to send it to Romsey .)

Did the retailer who supplied you describe it as having ATIS functionality? If so, they should pick up any cost, surely?

Having got a RMA form consent back via email within a few hours of the request I sent the radio off on Monday on an overnight service with a copy of the ATIS licence amendment and it arrived back on Wednesday morning, no charge ( within warranty upgrade ) and ATIS is now fully functional - okay, so now I'm very impressed by the physical service offered by Navico since they turned it around within a single working day.

Its a shame its not made clear at the point of purchase or within the manual which features are 'optional' depending on which European territory you purchase from. Neither the dealer, their wholesaler, or the UK sales rep knew these answers either and had to escalate up to Navico for the definitive response. Interestingly I also eventually separately got an email back from Lowrance EMEA from the message I left via their website that advised that the dealer could do the programming, hmmm, left hand right and hand not knowing what each other does methinks.

Hope this thread helps someone else through the fog of misinformation though.
