It was a real surprise when I came back to see the new sub forums. Can't see though why you need to hide them. Just don't go down there!. Just scrolled down and seen the authors of the latest posts and that is enough to put anybody half sensible off.
I know myself and i'd quite like to discuss some things on those issues so if it was there i'd get drawn in again. Its better not to have to make any effort to stop myself and just have them disappeared.

The Lounge has turned into a virtual Fight Club venue for those who can't quite pick up the courage for something like Mumsnet.

As a consequence, some of the most important topics facing us today - Brexit, Global Warming, and Covid-19 - have been confined to the nutter backwaters. Bizarre.

As you however say, best avoided.
I realised the problem is while we might all have something in common with boats and be able to have sensible conversations on the main topic we are all over the place on anything else. So if i want to talk about covid or other current affair its better to find forums where that is the main topic so the level of debate is higher than low level bun fight

It might help to see this place as like a library. Only go into the sections that are of interest and then only open the "books" that you want to read. If you find the subject matter unsuitable put them back on the shelf and move on.
As for arguments and points scoring I usually find it better to just state my opinion and leave it there rather than get into a spat with those who I wont convince of anything and vice versa. A bit of light hearted banter helps too.

So would I - but I have found that there is nowhere to have such debates, particularly on Covid and Brexit. For the latter however, because most of the dust has settled there is an emerging scene of assessment coming in the press and literature. Good start on Brexit is Robert Tombs new book "This Sovereign Isle". Very illuminating whichever side you were on.

I'm sure there are rather more impartial authors out there.

I'm not trying to be the forum police but this really isnt the place for this discussion
