I know it was a wind up etc etc but what a laugh. Even told some non-boating friends about it and they had a good old crease up too. Only caught the start of the offending thread before it was pulled. Pity.
Have got some excellent info off this site though. Would still even consider a Bayliner (I think).
tellus all about dream boat wot you have seen either
a) rotting in a river or
b) in marina driving into things a bit
c) in a posh marina with wimmn on board
d) on web
also info whether you are just thinking of a boat (very wise) or about to buy (ooer) or bought the thing (o heck) or had boat for ages (and hence going potty)
Got a 17ft fast fisher based at Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland. Maybe some of you have cruised to this area. Featured in Motor Boats Monthly several years ago. Incredibly scenic, fierce tides in the narrow lough entrance then calms down for much of it's 20 mile length. Has been designated a Marine Nature Reserve due to the extent of it's wildlife. Local Marina is at Portaferry, costs £250 per year for <= 6 metres then £450 for <= 8 meters. 8 meter max. Try and beat that. On the waiting list at the minute and hope to get in next year. Even on weekends/bank holidays on the sunniest days Strangford Lough is never busy. Deserted during the week also.
Would love to get a bigger boat, must be < 8 meters though, Channel Islands 22 praps, very fav comments on forum bout sea keeping of this, also has Mermaid diesel (cheap to maintain, as per forum) good value now, sub 20k. Or maybe bigger Hardy. Been impressed with the quality of these. Have tried to drum up some interest in other half for a new purchase but somewhat lacking in that respect. Has been known to be barred on occasions for lack of enthusiasm.
We're going to Earls Court in January. Who know's what will happen after that. Am now forewarned bout the salesmen though and will dress as roughly as possible and will barge onto any boat I so please (again forum advice). Have taken note though of comments from more than a few, saying their best fun was with their smallest boat. Has made me think twice bout incurring big debt. Wife may hope I go larger though as my trail boat has turned back garden of new house into a boat yard. Have had to remove flower beds to get access and lawn is now a bit of a mud bath. Horrified at this.
I like the bit where swmbo is barred through lack of enthusiasm. Forgive dolt with no knowledge of S Lough, izzat the big one?
We are drumming up support for a party at IPC (magazine) expense in Jan. Pleased to see that you too will be joining motley crowd of scruffy gits barging on to large boats. Me too.
Definitely has to be CI22 NOT a Hardy, really no comparison.
I still miss mine 4 years after selling her, easy to handle, cheap to run and seakeeping second to none in its size range (cept praps Seaward 23, but that's lots more dosh) and a good mover with Mermaid 140 (Turbo 4), max speed about 17 knots, cruise all day at 12 - 14 kts.
It's also the prettiest boat afloat of its size, all in all a real winner - go for it!
Matt you've lost me there. It doesn't really have much of a downstairs, toilet compartment, small galley and V berths - it's only 22 foot! The aft cockpit seat does extend forward to make a large double berth/sunbathing area.
It does have a rope fender all the way round or at least the older ones do, is this what you mean by eyebrows?
ah must be the 2468 or whatever. The eyebrows I meant are overhang of roof over windscreen, but since I've completely and utterly mistaken the boat, no matter!
