Possibility of sailing to Lundy next week, and anchoring for a couple of days. The forecast gives plenty of west/south west light winds, but is it OK to anchor in very light east or north east winds?
Thanks in advance.

Depends what you call "light". I wouldnt anchor there in 10kn easterly

Unless wind is due west the main (eastern) anchorage rolls like a pig and I certainly would never go there in an easterly more than maybe 10 knots. Winds from north leave you safe but very uncomfortable, but maybe from south you can get shelter from Rat Island.

I tend to use the mooring buoys rather than risk anchor dragging. There is a fishing boat buoy may a third of a mile out and the dive boat Obsession has a good buoy to borrow if shes not on it. If anchoring you need to go fairly close in and a decent anchor in case it blows up - say 10kg for 5 ton boat - or get ready to move and reset or just go elsewhere.

I love anchoring or mooring there and though have had dinghy swamped several times on launching and landing in bad weather I really enjoy eating in the Marisco Tavern. Lundy is bigger on every visit.

If wind strong easterly, you can anchor to the west in Jennys cove but lots of rocks and objective dangers to avoid and you cant get ashore which defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies, just had 2 nights peacefully anchored at Lundy.
Strangely the winds picked up to 18kts last night from the NW, but the anchor held firmly.
Easy row ashore but rather scary row back with the possibility of overshooting with a slight westerly which had picked up!
Presently been motoring for 3 hours going east, with hardly a breath of wind. This summer has been great!
