I understand there is a luna eclipse tonight..

I have only ever watched one before, that was sitting outside the Folly at Cowes drinking beer, reading a book and looking south. I wondered what was going on when the moon that was full one moment was cresent when I next looked up.

Think its at about 23:30 and is 'total'. worth staying up for if its a clear night where you are.

If you Google 'luna eclipse' there is a calculator, but I assume that it must vary depending where exactly you are.

Regards Nick

No, a lunar eclipse is the same time from anywhere on earth (as long as the moon is above the horizon). Solar eclipses have different times in different places.

You'll need to be looking a bit earlier as the best bit is when the moon is still in the penumbra and glows reddish. Full eclipse is fairly dark to invisible. I think total is nearer 10.30

My first and last lunar eclipse I was aboard Aquarius of Darenth in marina of Lagos, Portugal in May 2003... it was well worth loosing sleep for... very awe inspiring! Can see moon now so hope it stays clear for 2nd viewing.

I've been lucky enough to see several, but the best was when tucked up in bed in a Highland cottage, watching the moon through the sky-light:
at totality looking like a pearl.
A memory to cherish!

All right! All right! Where is it?

The BBC states with magisterial authority this event will start at 2018GMT. It's now 2030GMT/UTC.

Nix.

Nada.

No show.

Why are we waiting? Is it the commercials?

Is it that Michael Fish again? Bluddy Met Office..... Why don't they employ a pair of Druids.....?

Wot a way to run a country.....

Harumph!

Solent 2107 clear sky big bright round thing in sky clearly visible. Not a bleedin' chip out of the corner of it yet. Are we on the right planet?

This from the BBC's website a couple of minutes ago.

The eclipse began at 2018 GMT, with the Moon totally immersed in the shadow of the Earth between 2244 and 2358 GMT.

Note the past tense. What planet are they on......?

I'm going for a beer. If anything untoward happens to the cosmos in my absence, kindly take care of it for me......

It's over an hour late! Good Gordon Highlanders! Who's running this show, Great Western Railways....?

I'll bet the Germans and the Swiss had their lunar eclipse bang on time....!
