Luke 23:34

What a load of tosh from some warped minded yottie. I'm a motor boater and do my damdest to pass as far as possible from yachts and leave as little wash as possible so that some of these cantakerous idiots don't have more ammunition. Some of their actions on the water are just plain pig headed and have absolutely no bearing on what Colregs state is the correct procedure.

well said

I enjoyed you passionate prose

just one minor point

the bible quote came from lisilou

and I was complimenting them on their perspicacity

Can't be my boat in that pic surely Dylan?....not nearly enough wash. I really must try harder.

:)

again.... a most perfectly worded response - witty, pithy, polite

you should take up writing

incidentally.... to widen the debate a little.

It has been suggested that I have read too many sailing books

which is probably true

and is it not time I read a well written mobo book.

so I am open to suggestions

.... I beg of you to spare me books about the exploring the english canal system.

I occasionally review books

I shall explore any urls you care to provide

I enjoyed the thread. Have had no problem with mobos - but I am totally unreasonable, opinionated and prejudiced when it comes to Jet Skis - I hate hate hate them. Rather be rocked by a mobo than buzzed by a jet ski

well I did follow the link

on first look see I would need some convincing

ripping yarn was one of the words used to describe it

It's great stuff, honest. A ripping yarn, OK, but all true.

Are there any great tales of recreational motorboating?

Monday: Went from marina to other marina. Went shopping. Ate out.
Tuesday: Went from marina to other marina. Went shopping. Ate out.
Wednesday: Went from marina to other marina. Went shopping. Ate out.
Thursday: Got bored of boat. Bought new one.
Friday: Went from marina to other marina. Went shopping. Ate out.
Saturday: Thought of anchoring, but F2 forecast. Went from marina to other marina. Went shopping. Ate out.
Sunday: Went from marina to other marina. Tormented grumpy man in Centaur en route. Went shopping. Ate out.

Or of course the Thames version, which is much the same but in blazer and whites and involves a nosebleed and lie down if speed ever exceeds walking pace.

Sailing boat diary:

Monday: Tried to go from marina to other marina but tide was against us. Got back but shops shut. Couldn't eat.
Tuesday: No wind so went to other marina under engine, just like a motor boat but much slower. Shops shut. Couldn't eat.
Wednesday: Went sailing, came back into marina but ran aground. Shops shut. Couldn't eat..
Thursday: Had to go to shops.
Friday: Cracking F6 hard on the nose, seven hour beat in choppy weather, absolutely soaked and frozen. Marvellous. Shops shut. Couldn't eat.
Saturday: SWMBO and children strangely unenthusiastic????? Had to end holiday prematurely.
Sunday: Had to go to IKEA for five hours to placate SWMBO and Legoland to placate children. Cost £120 in entrance fees and £350 in rugs, bedding and candles we didn't need from IKEA. It's expensive this sailing lark.

Thought the first video was me for a minute, then I realised you were well zoomed in making the normal sea room given by that A9 look like my usual close quarters passing at WOT.

What a fantastic week! Personally I'd have found time to pick up a buoy along a nice, quiet, out of the way river somewhere, whereupon I'd have run my noisy genni all day and all night, drunk copious quantities of lager and Red Bull, maybe downed a few Jagermeisters just to 'rowdy' it up a bit, all washed down with some nice house music for background entertainment. But hey...you can't have everything I s'pose.

My second and last bike was a Suzuki A100. I loaded it with two huge paniers and drove to the South of France. I fell over several times at traffic lights and needed help to right it, it was so overloaded. I gradually ate the cans of baked beans and tinned fruit I thought so essential to bring and ditched two of the three beach towels I'd packed. One day I missed a level crossing on a corner and drove down railway line for 100 metres, bumping over the wooden sleepers until I was thrown off. Only a 19 year old could be so stupid.
