Luke 23:34

Pinched from a Simon Hoggarts article;

It's like the old Scottish joke about the Wee Free preacher describing the day of judgment. "There will be people cast into the pits of Hell, crying 'oh, Lord, we didna ken!' And the Lord will reply, 'well, ye ken noo!'"

And your problem is ?

(Ex Raggie who tries to keep his wash a sensible distance whenrever possible - were it the case that raggies all look around before they tack !)

The second shot shows the fast mobo passing close to the slower one, yet the slower one hardly moves, and believe me a heavy power boat really does skew into heavy wash when too close as your yacht woud. But in neither shot were you moved excessively - suspect this is just a have a pop at Mobo time. You were also zoomed in, and slightly further over were more raggies, as the view is distorted by zooming could be the fast Mobo took the mid distance between the raggies, and like most fast planing boats they make less wash at speed than perhaps at around 12-14 knots.

What an excellent video showing how when a motor boat passes at a safe distance your boat is hardly affected by any wash.

And excellent video in praise of the skippers concerned and I congratulate you on posting it.

Romans 2:1-5New International Version (NIV)
God’s Righteous Judgment

2 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2 Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3 So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?

5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.

+1. Not sure what you are trying to say here Dylan, but in unrestricted waters the mobos were doing nothing wrong, and their wash had little/no effect on your progress. Perhaps envious they would be in the bar before you. There's a lot of rubbish on here about mobo's and their behaviour, but having gone from 48' planing mobo to a 33' yacht, I was surprised to find 99% of mobo wash makes no difference to me. It can be annoying in the approach to tha Hamble or Lymington though, when their wash at 8 knots is worse than when they are on the plane.

Goodness gracious, boats out on the water on a sunny day, you don't expect that. Well done for capturing it on camera!

Dylan, you don't do yourself any favours with this sort of thread. You make very good, professional even, films but you let your predjucies overrule you and your proffesionalsm slips when you see a mobo. Often they are doing nothing wrong, you just don't want them to be where they are. I do understand, I have the same issue with cyclists and dinghy sailors, but you have to rise above it. Please keep making the films, but please stop this trolling. In all honesty, threads started purely with the intention of starting a spat, which you knew very well this would, should result in a word from the mods IMHO

What a load of tosh from some warped minded yottie. I'm a motor boater and do my damdest to pass as far as possible from yachts and leave as little wash as possible so that some of these cantakerous idiots don't have more ammunition. Some of their actions on the water are just plain pig headed and have absolutely no bearing on what Colregs state is the correct procedure.

I think it is a little rude for any boat to pass unnecessarily close to another if it can reasonably and easily be avoided. This particularly applies to motorboats (against whom I have nothing) passing close by yachts, because of the disparity of height and noise. In generally, though, I find most motorboaters very pleasant, with just the occasional prat. Much like sailing people, really.
