I have just invested in a new furling headsail. The luff of the new sail does does pull easily through the groove on the furling system. Could someone advise me if I can use ordinary candle wax to ease it or do I have to make a long detour to the chandler to buy a no doubt expensive tube of something before I can go sailing this weekend . Will candle wax mark or harm the new sail? Many thanks.

We use silicone gel that comes in a little tube. Available from Kleeneezee (sp?) etc. I still have to winch hard though but it does help. It works brilliantly in the main-sail track as well.

Spray silicone furniture polish, or even teflon spray, both work a treat and cheap!
