Lubricating Selden furling gear.

Its just a tube of stuff like normal winch grease only much more expensive.

We used winch grease instead, but as it was made by Andersen it was even more expensive than the Selden stuff.

Another reason why we switched to Schaeffer which do not require greasing.

Excellent that's what I thought, however my 30 year old tube of grease is almost finished.

Bite the bullet, £10 for a 100g, good grief.

I've been using some special grease bought at a bike shop. It's intended to use at the chain of (racing) bikes with the derailleur-type of gears.

Here is the link (in English)

I've been using it for some years now and it works great.

Recently we got a new (to us) boat, again with a Furlex. The bearings were extremely dry and dirty. As we had the mast down I rinsed all the bearings (drum side and top-swivel side) with a brush and cleaning-petrol (sorry, Dutch name). Afterwards I lubricated with the product above. Has been great all season.

The lubricant is quite cheap and easy to apply.
