I have a couple of Lewmar hatches in the console and deck of my RIB. The action of the handles has become quite stiff over the years so I guess they need stripping down and lubricating. Stripping down is OK but any suggestions what to use as a lubricant? (No funnies please!). Also is it possible to replace the rubber gasket on one of these hatches and where would I get one from?

TIA,

AJ

you need a light grease. vaseline will dry out in time. i use a white teflon grease, applied thinly.

suggest you contact lewmar about the seal, it's a special type.

In the days when I worked in labs I always used silicone stopcock grease. Now that source is no longer available to me I use Lewmar winch grease, which looks like exactly the same stuff. I also use it for the toilet O-rings, log transducer, seacocks. Oh, and the winches.
