I need an LPG water heater now as ready to fit it :).

I am considering the Morco F-11, pricey but it is room sealed, has a nice small flue ( 80mm sticking outside the cabin top ) and choice of horizontal so no big 300mm external flue sticking up ( which I dont like one bit ) along with the 600mm internal. which I dont like one bit.

I liked the Malaga 5 but there is nowhere to fit it for the side flue, well not high enough above water level and all that weight of 15 KG sat around 5 foot up the cabin side is a bit much anyway.

Now these I have been told by a BSC inspector that they are catching on. Just no info yet of the flue etc, and it has a high output for what i need. Good price though. This is just an example, prices are as low as £100.

Then there is the Morco DB61, good old reliable heater.

Just wondering what you all are using for your hot water to run the taps and shower.

BTW room sealed is only advised for the BSC , still room sealed is best way and safest to go, even though at near twice the price.

Is your gas cooker room-sealed ..?
Look also at the Cointra range, rather more compact than the Morcos. I've just purchased their smallest open flue model(5 lpm) with vertical 80mm flue.

LPG water heaters are very popular in NZ. We have one on our Steel Hartley 30.

As they, unlike a cooker, are on for only a short period of time CO buildup is not a problem IMO.

Boats tend to be simpler in many cases down under.

We also had one on a narrowboat in the '70's. That was trouble free and effective. That boat also had a gas fridge, very effective but expensive to run.

Pre BSS days............................

we use a morco water heater in the shower hut at my daughters glampsite---(shameless plug---thegreenescape. co.uk)---we have no electric so have battery powered piezo ignition model----very efficient-- we were going to put it inside the shower hut but looking at the installation regulations and safety considerations----we decided to site it externally-----the total price will rise considerably when you add the flue and the gas engineer to fit it----lastly---our gas engineer was only licenced to do work on houses---no caravans/motorhomes etc----we were fitting ours to a shepherds hut with wheels----gasman scratched his head ---said never going to move---grey area---fitted it

Looks neat the Cointra, I have just had a look but unable to find the instructions for installation in English.

How high does the flue have to be in total and how high is it externally ?

Can it be shortened to a minimum within the installation instructions?

Am I correct in it needing microbore pipe, small unit and KW so it must be 8mm ?

The water heater will be fitted in a cupboard with a good deal of ventilation, enough needed and more for what ever heater is fitted for the installation. Good thing about the F-11 that it is room sealed and combustion air is not drawn from the interior.

Nearly forgot I have a Voyager 4500 cooker.

Thanks for the replies :)

I have had a non room sealed LPG heater on my previous and current boat. The flue went out the cabin side in both cases with a water block dorade box setup in stainless steel. Both worked very well.

The only problem we have is some times the heater switches off due to low water pressure when the cold water comes on and takes the water flow from the hearer otherwise very pleased.

We do not have mains power on my mooring so cannot use calorifier immersion heater and only use the engine heating when we run the engine which is not often in dock.
