LPG Gas solenoid gets hot

We've had our current boat for 10 years but over the weekend fuse blow on the gas on/ off solenoid. Replaced fuse checked current drawn and found drawing only .4 of an amp but the unit is getting very warm you can touch but only just.
Appeared a little worrying considering gas flowing through, any ideas please.

If you can just touch it, then the surface is probably around 50ish def C, that's not too bad. But, its not impossible that the coil has gone partially short so is drawing more current hence the fuse blowing, but again you measured 0.4A, which I would say is normal for something like that.

You dont say what make it is.

Perhaps you can find the spec for it on line somewhare which will tell you the correct current draw.

Modern ones draw higher current when operating, ie actaully opening the valve but then draop to a smaller cuurrent to mainatin the open position

Maybe a modern one gone wrong or an old type.

If an old type maybe worth replacing with a more modern one

A Nerus Powersaver valve http://www.socal.co.uk/powersaver-12v-remote-gas-switch-solenoid-gas-valve.html draws 1.0 amp for a few seconds and the uses 0.3 amps.

0.4 amps therefore not excessive it would seem

We had a Truma gas solenoid.

It got unbelievably hot and didn't last that long.
I concluded they were not meant to be left on for long periods.
