<RANT MODE ON> Just installed a new one of these... with gimbals... What effing idiot designed this? The gimbal bracket is a bit of bent stainless, about a mm thick, and can only be used with round head screws/bolts. The pan holders on which the gimbals fit are bolted on with hex head bolts... Unfortunately, when you try then to drop the cooker onto the gimbal bracket, the bolt and screw heads conflict, so you have to tilt the cooker to fit it...

<RANT MODE OFF>

I feel better now...

Many years later I am sharing the same frustrating experience, except that bashing isn’t working. After many hours of struggling we are wondering what to try next.

I fitted the new cooker on the old gimbals set.

New gimbals slightly wider so wouldn't fit in boat

The flame safety device - you have to hold the knob pushed in gently for a half minute or so until the device is happy, then release. If you let go too soon the flame will go out and doesn't always want to re-light - you soon get used to it though.

That a was fast response, thank you. We are going from the very old Atlantic to a Neptune. The folks at Leisure Products advised that the height had changed and so new gimbals were needed. We are really struggling with these.

With your encouragement, we may have another try at refitting the old gimbals and the supporting frame at the top. Failing that I will take the side plates that mount to the boat enclosure around the cooker and countersink them.

Thanks again for chiming in.

We are also tilting the cooker at a pronounced angle to try to move the snagging bolt heads out of alignment with each other. It’s a long day and a longer night 😉.

Real time update, live from the boat despite me being half dead. After much brutal graunching, encouraged by SWMBO, the cooker was persuaded into place by levering the side supports with an excessive amount of force. I doubt the cooker can be removed in future.

Time for dinner and bed.

To anyone fitting a new Neptune 4500 cooker, either pay to get it done or take strong mates with you.
