I'm thinking of upgrading my cockpit plotter (lowrance 5200c) to a larger unit.
Lowrance have I believed changed their cards from sd to micro cards so my sd charts will not fit.
Anyone know if there is available new older model plotters from loweance or other brands that use navionics sd cartography?

If you have an existing Navionics card, you can upgrade to the newest type for around £80 (or you could last time I looked, anyway). Maybe just factor this in as part of the cost of the upgrade?

I have an HDS Gen 3 9" model and it is superb, with excellent touch screen, but does just accept micro SD cards.
The built in wifi and free smartphone app is useful as it displays an exact replica of the display complete with touch functionality (so my 10" Xperia Z tablet functions as a fully functional remote).
It works seamlessly with my Raymarine SPX autopilot.

Ps contact bottomline ltd on the Isle of Man - they are Lowrance agents and very helpful so will be able to supply the upgrade.
Their service is super fast too - ordered the Gen3 on friday, delivered to my closest Argos by 10am the next morning.

It's no issue changing the SD card to mini SD. Just do you normal Navionics update with the mini card in a USB adaptor, my oringinal Navoinics came with the std SD dongle and adaptor anyway.
I upgrade last year to Lowrance Elite Ti7, wife, touch screen the the remote IPad option brilliant at the chart table

Thanks Pete and Ian.
I'm staying with lowrance as apart from an ariel breakdown the first year it's worked faultlessly for the last 9 years.
I just want a bigger screen being easier to view from the tiller.
Thanks again

I find that very surprising, since Navionics cards have a license file on them which is tied to the manufacturer serial number of the card. If you've found a way to put working Navionics charts on a micro-SD card that wasn't bought from Navionics, you've done what a lot of (naughty) people have been trying to do for many years without success.

I've a full purchased copy which which Navionics updated from Gold at last years SBS, the micro card goes into the supplied SD card which I assume has the key on it, so not directly using the micro card on USB adapter on its own,

The key is on the card which is the micro part, the full-size adapter is just a dumb bit of plastic with some metal traces runnning through it.

Since the whole point of the thread is that the OP doesn't want to buy a new Navionics card, this is of no help to him whatsoever.

I understood from speaking to Navionics that you could use chart installer via your Navionics account to transfer to another card and it would then deactivate the previous card from allowing updates and upgrades but it would still allow viewing on the chart plotter. This would be needed if the SD card got corrupted or damaged. This us does by reading the cards I'd number not one that Navionics have loaded.

If this was s the case the OP can use his existing account to load onto a new micro SD card for his new plotter using chart updater
