This is on sale Mailspeed
bundled with a map that seems to cover the western seaboard.

Is this the bargain it seems?

Having bought the 3500C with Nauticpath chart card for 450 quid delivered - I can honestly say it's a good deal at thye price I paid ... I have no complaint about level of detail.

Just after I bought - the 3600 came out with internal antenna .... which would have been my preferred.

Cost up comparison ..... and you will find that it is way cheaper option. If you don't mind lower res screen - you could go for the Eagle version - which is significantly cheaper ....

They are after all AIDS to Navigation .....

I bought the 3500 with the seperate antenna, the set is very easy to use and read, I had to buy the nauctipath chart for the med separately, I am not to impressed with the chart detail. If you purchase the set it may be worth checking which charts are available to your locality, ie better detail.

Re: Lowrance GlobalMap 3600c iGPS .... Navionics as well ...

The Lowrance sets take Navionics as well as their Own Nauticpath cards.

In terms of local stuff - you can even create your own charts on mmc / sd cards ..... as I have done for the river my house is on ...

Many people comment on level of detail .... IMHO if you are using a GPS plotter to navigate INTO a harbour you are courting disaster ... IMHO the plotter is to get you to the harbour entrance and then to use seamanship / good sense etc. to get in using bouyage etc. and principally Mk 1 eyeball ....

Re: Lowrance GlobalMap 3600c iGPS .... Navionics as well ...

I think the problem is in the area where I live, the naucticpath chart is good at major ports, but harbours like Fiscardo are not shown. I have seen garmin plotters showing pontoons harbour wall etc so maybe I expected too much.
I would not of course use it for entering a harbour (i can see where i am) just would have been a little better.

Re: Lowrance GlobalMap 3600c iGPS .... Navionics as well ...

I agree ..... it's just that I think that at £140 a throw for a large area chart card like Nauticpath against the much larger cost of Navionics etc. for same area or even less area coverage is overlooked.
I would consider a Navionics card for local detail and the Nauticpath for general area to area ?? Saving a vast amount of cash !!

NauticPath charts

I found it very difficult to judge coverage quality of electronic charts before buying. Before buying theNP chart Ichecked on a. River Dart up river to Totnes - not perfect but adequate for purpose.
b. Europe N chart - estuary outside Nykoping Sweden which I know well. This was perfectly adequate too.
As it happened I got the NP chart in with the plotter at the SBS so if I wsnt satisfied I could still go and buy the Navionics one.
There are problems with the NP chart which I've found by going over other routes in Sweden but they are not too serious and I don't know if the Navionics one is better.
I do like the picture shown on th eLowrance 3600 as compared with one of the smaller Garmins. But that used a different chart type.
My feeling or guess rather is that the NP charts are new and a bit unfinished. However they do cover an enormous area and it's down to individual buoy level.

No, it\'s not a bargain...

Mailspeed's idea of a "sale" price doesn't match other people's. You can get the 3600C for £365 inc UK shipping from JG Technologies (Mailspeed price is £397 inc delivery). Or with the NauticPath chart, it's £439 inc shipping from JG, £507 inc shipping from Mailspeed. Some "sale", huh?

Bought mine for £449.95 in May, including the Nauticpath Chart.

if I was doing it again, I might buy the navionics charts, but can confirm that we had good coverage Glasson Dock, River Lune, North Anglesey/Skerries, Falmouth, Bayona, (marinas a bit out of date), Lexioes, Cascais, Lagos, (bit limited).

Certainly an enormous saving over plotter + chart-chip bought separately - obviously a marketing ploy to kick-start the sale of Nautic-Path charts.

Before passing an unqualified opinion in support, I'd like to check out the charts and how the GPS receiver compares with the external unit on the identical 3500c

One aspect of Lowrance that is not voiced ...

It is reasonably easy to compile own chartlets to display on the Lowrance range .... various software packages are available on net ... so if you have a particular difficult location or mooring that needs "own" chartlet .... you can actually draw this yourself and display ...

It can be done for Garmin as well ... but Lowrance seems to be well covered by various authors ... possibly because iFinders / 3500 / 3600 etc. are bought by many US Fisherfolk etc.
There are even support groups on the net designed with this specific in mind.

For myself - my boat has moved from UK to Baltic and in particular up-river where no charts exist. So I have scanned in, shape-filed and created own lcm charts for the river ..... Next step is to use my smaller weekender and sounder to create a few sounding contours to overlay on the chartlets ....

Yes - I am biased to the Lowrance 3500C .... why ? Because price for price I could not find better ... and the chart card has proved more than enough for my use until departed UK waters. Add on my own creations .... I have no wish to change it .....
