I need to connect a Lowrance 3500C to a Nasa 35x radio. I think the plotter wires are orange in and yellow out. Is there a ground wire to connect too? I think the radio is brown wire in but not sure about the others. Anyone know for sure?

Also when connecting the the plotter, what do the NMEA 2000 wires do? I thought I didn't need to use them but it didn't work without connecting them to the power + and -. Is there a reason why I can't marry these wires with the main plotter power wires.

Cheers.

I did a Lowrance 3300C to SH DSC VHF.

Can't recall the wire colours now, but I found out which was ground and which was data (out) using a voltmeter. The data wire gave regular blips of voltage relative to boat earth I seem to recall.

You need NMEA 2000 power in order for your GPS module to be powered up - unless yours is built in to the unit? I have wired mine in with the main power to the GPS unit in order to save on the number of wires. Think I also bound the RS232 out ground wire to the boat earth.

Bob is correct - NMEA 2000 is necessary to be powered because the GPS antena is 2000 Bus ... Marrying is not a problem except you have to be remember that it has no switch off ! Plotter may be off - but antena will still be powered. So I have my 3500C on a plug that I disconnect - which feeds both plotter and 2000.

As to DSC ... manual is spot on with the wires to connect ... if you don't have a manual - Lowrance site has them for download ... worth the effort.

My 3500C was connected to a panel that I have DSC radio in ... I can also input GPS to DSC and Lowrance from handheld GPS if my Lowrance antena fails through same panel. :)
