Lowrance Global map 5200C maps

The boat I recently bought is fitted with a 5200C .. A luxury I have never had before as I had never ventured out of the Thames..

Is there any way to tell if the map is up to date ? I have no idea how old this unit is.. I looked on the Lowrance website and I see that their is a software update available, but I think this is just the system software rather than maps..
my unit shows version 1.7.0. and the latest is Version 2.5.0.

Their does not appear to be any mention of map updates.
The SD card in the unit is marked 'nautical path Eur south'

Anyone familiar with these units.????

Your unit is running the Lowrance Nauticpath charting software which is Lowrance's own charting software. I am not sure if there are updated versions of this. You should also be able to run Navionics gold cartography in your unit which is updatable.......at a price, but is also expensive to buy to begin with. You are correct in stating that the version number relates to the internal firmware of the plotter, not the charting software. Many people find the Nauticpath charts a bit hit and miss. Personally, I like them and use them as a back up in a hand held plotter at the helm. You could e-mail Lowrance to see if they have a more up to date version of the chart.
