We would like to sail the East Coast this year, but my family doesn't like the first leg across from Holland. I will therefore deliver the boat with friends before and need to travel back to Holland.
Has anyone doen that and can advise on the best train/airport or train/ferry connection.
Need not be to/from Lowestoft necessarily, but that looked like the best starting place.

thanks
chris

The station at Lowesoft is in the middle of town and trains go into Liverpool St in London. From there you can get the Stansted express to Stansted and get Ryanair (and probably other cut-price) flights to Amsterdam. There might be a Stansted-Lowestoft bus - try the Stansted airport website. Other London airports are marginally more inconvenient - Luton (Easyjet), Heathrow and Gatwick (most airlines) are on train or tube lines.

Try the East Coast Forum for helpful, friendly advice on where to go once you get your family here.

There is the Harwich - Hook of Holland ferry. Just opposite Harwich is Shotley Marina. Passengers arriving by ferry could take a short taxi ride to Halfpenny Quay and be collected from there.

Try messaging Wunja - he did it very recently to attend the fitting up supper.

East Coast Forum can offer loads of advice here

Agree with Bejasus. Lowestoft station is fairly close to the Royal Norfok and Suffolk Yacht club, easy walking distamce. Train to Norwich and taxi to the airport. Something like three planes a day to Schipol.

Thanks for your helpful info.
Will start planning now - for a nice sail along the coast in July.
Rail and Sail looks like a great deal, and the flight from Norwich is incredible fast a way back (I have to go to Amsterdam)
I will let you know how it goes

I would seriously recommend that you head for Ipswich haven Marina at the head of the river Orwell. Easy all weather/all tide access and only 15minutes walk to the rail station. From there you can easily travel to Norwich or Stansted for a flight, or Harwich for the ferry to Hook of Holland. Downside is a slightly longer crossing than Lowestoft.
OTOH, Lowestoft can be a tricky entrance in poor weather and the next nearest option is Harwich Harbour/Ipswich anyway.
