lower tonnage limit before DTI / coast/g, regs

Sounds daft dunt it but .
I nearly came unstuck and brought an ex mfv which was 75 foot long 19.5 beam
9 draft.
Apart from plenty of planking to do the engine and all other machinery needed work . Asbestos coverings around the engine room still didn't put me off
I was quite happy until I found planks right on and slightly below the water line needing work, that meant dry dock and £448.00 in out and £48.00 a day so that killed it.
After I talked about it to a mate who said no way Mick you'd get caught out with light duties ,Coastguard and DTI stuff as well .

So what is the limit before I would have to comply with DTI regs have a skippers ticket and also have to have the correct amount and types of life saving equipment.
What navigation equipment is required
What would also be handy to know is how many crew are required
What costs would be incurred re light duties ,yes I know this one would depend on where the ship went, but per tonnage would do .
I will try at some point to see if stuff re this is available from the DTI but you need to be a solicitor to interpret the information correctly ,well that's an assumption but you know what it can be like.
Thanks in advance

Cheers
Mick

This page will give you some info. on light dues....

Another point to consider will be Pilotage, over a certain size some ports insist you use their Pilot. Now that really is costly.

It's the Maritime Coastguard Agency, not the DTI, who deal with this sort of thing nowadays.
The certification depends on what you want to do with the boat.
