Low Silicate Antifreeze...

Does anyone know a retailer (shop or online) that carries low silicate antifreeze, as recommended by Mercruiser for my 4.2 D-Tronic engines. Whenever I mention 'low silicate' in an auto or agricultural sales centre they look at me as if I have three heads. Comma do a range of silicate free antifreezes but low silcate is recommended to aid lubrication and protection. Thanks in advance....

I think you will find there are basically two types of antifreeze. (Which should not be mixed)

Organic acid technology (OAT) which is silicate free
and
Standard Silicate based technology. I imagine this is what you require

You will find both types in Halfords. Both "Own brand" and Comma

Halfords "Advanced antifreeze" "Ready mixed antifreeze" and Comma X-stream G40 are the silicate free OAT type

Halfords Antifreeze and coolant and Comma X-stream G48 are silicate based.

You may find hybrids and you will also find a universal top up mixture

I am sure you will find similar in other brands at other motor factors. Just avoid anything that is described as "silicate free" or as "Organic acid" technology
