Low oil pressure - ideas?

Lots of good advice.

If, and only if, there is a severe problem, the engine needs to come out. If that is the case, due diligence would include a full investigation of the engine and some informed decisions on what to do - and what to leave in piece.

A business case would ultimately point to the solution. Swapping for a rebuilt engine might be on the horizon.

Hi all, thought I'd pop by with a mini-update - boatyard are going to give it a general service and find the source of the oil leak (or whatever it is) at the same time, so fingers crossed it'll get sorted then.

Went out on the boat yesterday, they've changed the oil and it seems to be ok now, no leak visible and pressure was ok.

Now just a mangled prop and broken cavitation plate to deal with!! 😭😭

With a Mecruiser 4.3 you're bound to have an Alpha drive. Props are plenty, Mercury aka Quicksilver props are reknown.

Note that 90% of prop performance stems from the design - 10% from the material (stainless vs alloy). If happy with the existing prop just get an identical (numbers on the prop hub). If you want to change anything (as if the engine doesn't reach recommended rpm range (4400-4800) at full throtlle with your normal load), talk to you prop specialist or go by the rule of thumb: One inch pitch decrease will increase engine rpm by 200 - and vice versa.

Prop repair and/or pitch change can be done by Steel Developments - propeller repairs, servicing and alterations. and others.

Broken (how !?) cavitation (or antiventilation) plate might take a new lower gearcase unit (£££££!!), depending on state.

Aftermarket units can be from SEI.
