I heard a long time ago about a method for restoring life into ageing batteries whereby dropping a teaspoon of a powdered substance called EDTA into each cell will revitalize them and lead to a much longer lifespan. Can anyone comment on this and explain what EDTA is and where can I get hold of some??

Halfords sell a product that I have used with success called Bat-tabs, comes in a tube of 12 tablets with complete instructions. I have recovered a 'dead' battery that has gone on for a futher two years following treatment. Your friendly local chemist may sell EDTA in powder form but the dose rate will be uncertain. Last price from Halfords was about £3.50.
