Hi,
Good news, boats gone back in the water

Bad news, ran it round the corner to Chichester to find port engine black smokin as soon as you touch the trottles, and not willing to rev above 2500 rpm. Could be injectors me thinks? VP AD41B's.

I had similar on stb engine and replaced injector tips this transformed stb engine.

Is there a sure fire way to see if injectors are knackered or not. Thought about swapping stb for port but running under no load may not show up probs.

Any other ideas?

Appreciate help
Kevin

Only real "surefire" way to test the fuel injectors, is to remove them and have them checked at a deisel shop for 'leakage and spray pattern'.
Why not try a fuel system cleaner for deisels? it can be added directly into the fuel filter as a shock treatment, or add it to the fuel tank for a progressive cleaning.
Also check the air filter(s) have not become clogged.
Dave.

Turbo should just be starting to boost at that RPM. Not seized or stuck is it?

Might be worth checking any rubber hoses between the turbo/intercooler/inlet manifold, had a similar thing recently.

Don't forget to check your exhaust elbows for clogging up with carbon/deposits etc - you'll have to remove them completely to check properly though, should be an easy job to do without wasting any cash, if OK then have the injectors checked.

Dave is probably right -get your injector checked by a commercial diesel specialist.
This should cost very little-possibly just a contribution to their tea fund. Otherwise
have you changed or cleaned the air filter recently?

dont waste time having a quick check of these injectors
it can only prove them bad but cannot say they are ok!
either put them in the other engine and try them , have them tested by FULLY equiped bosch test shop or fit s ex injectors they are about the same price as nozzles.
lack of air either from blocked air filter etc or turbo not working should be checked.

watch when you take them out as the sleeves can come with them especialy if you dont use the proper tool
