I thought the S2 was only available as 8 inch. I'm looking for a replacement for my Nexus 10 because the battery has given up the ghost but I do like the size.

No, you do have the choice of 8 or 9.7" and prices are on the way down due to them soon releasing the Tab S3.

Well we took the plunge and bought it on Thursday, and used it on Friday for a local trip of five hours or so. No problem at all with bright sunlight,. The battery still had half left after five hours on full brightness and it carried on tracking even in the cabin. Auto routing takes a minute but after that every thing else is pretty quick. For £49 we're very impressed.

I have a £99( usually £119 ) 10" Lenova tab 3 16 gig - 2 gig ram. Very good gps - but very few other sensors. Good screen - great battery - good wifi - sd card etc.
Take 2 gig ram - 16 gig storage as absolute minimum !
Runs fine with Marine Navigator and they are not vector charts - but raster copies of Admiralty charts - so larger files. Fairly simple nav program - good and simple. Waypoint ( marker ) route, track etc. Export as gpx ( will import gpx if you go through the back door ! ) Cheap and easy to set up.
Marine navigator admiralty chart set of West uk ( mid Scotland to Channel islands ) and most of ireland - £4.50 ! crazy cheap - same charts as I have on my Admiralty folio sets ! ( must be 80 plus charts - inc all the small scale charts, plans etc )
I easily placed all my waypoints onto it from my Garmin 152 - and that just exports a wpt file as serial. ( converted then to gpx online- and planted the file into the MN folder )

I have exactly the same thing, also with Marine Navigator VMH Raster charts.
Battery life of the Tab is incredible (compared to my Dell laptop and my iPhone 7).
Basic but simple to use. I bought it for no particular reason, just to try it out. My boat has Simrad Navionics. I prefer Raster so it’s worth having simply as an alternative.
Cost nothing compared to anything with a “marine” label.
