Hi all
read recently somewhere that the Russian Academy of Sciences in
St Petersburg has a department dedicated to fleas,So whats it to do with
navigation you say? Apparently the Vikings used them as a navigational
aid, suppose with all those furs they wore there was never a shortage of
them! Possibly the Russians are experimenting as their Glonass constellation
is not young as it was! Any way, apparently the fleas when thay have had
their fill of you always hop off by jumping in a northerly direction,
so possibly if all fails compass electrics etc. and you happen to be carrying
passengers of the itchy kind you will have a alternative means of navigation!
Be interesting to know if you have fleas and if so have you tried navigating
with them? All replies will be kept confidential!!!

I am confused - if all fleas when full jumped in a northerly direction, then over a period of time the fleas would all end up at the North Pole!

The only place to find mates would also be in a northerly direction - but then thinking about it - as each generation bred and also jumped North, when they end up at the North Pole the only way to go is South! So there must be according to Newtons an equal and opposite flow of fleas south on the other side?

Could you also please clarify, just in case I ever need to use this amazing property of fleas, if its the magnetic or true North they jump to?
:)

I think what Mike is saying is that they take off in a northerly direction not necessarily maintaining that direction . I'm sure Mike will correct me if my assumptions are incorrect!!

Fair winds to you all.

Sorry chaps!! Forgot I was on MB forum CANCEL REFERENCE TO "FAIR WINDS"
NO WINDS AND FLAT SEAS TO YOU ALL!!

Quite right Terry
Thing to remember is fleas are only passengers, go where ever the
host travels, until it spots a tastier meal,
If on a boat sailing south in the middle of the oggin, have to be a
very silly flea that decides to head off north! Of course I,m not a
expert on the subject, perhaps some lousy reader of this might be able
to offer a more expert opinion!
