My dinghy was flipped whilst tied up outside the Ferry Boat Inn at Dittisham last week and the oars disappeared - yes learning has taken place and from now on they will be tied in when not in use /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

But, if anyone finds a pair of jointed varnished oars in a canvas holder floating down the Dart or washed up on the foreshore, a PM would be very much appreciated.

Many Thanks.

That happened to me once....eyed up the tidal flow etc and set off under outboard and went straight to them upstream at the old boathouse on the other side LOL

Well at least the OB was tied on.
Tip: (or is that the wrong word to use in these circumstances) ( maybe I shouldn't have used 'or' either)
Anyway - tie your oars on even when they are in use. If you slip on the power stroke, you fall back, lose your grip on said oar, watch it float down the river!

Much appreciated, but please don't go out of your way - I suspect the odds are slim. For what it's worth, the tide was about mid flood, a couple of days after neaps and the wind was blowing from WSW, more or less from Dittisham towards Galmpton. Thanks for your thought.

Did you mention it to DHNA ? They are generally v helpful and any gear recovered from the river is usually stored at Hoodown.

DHNA were very helpful in towing me back to the mooring (no oars or outboard /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) but I'll give the office a ring to make sure they're aware as well. Many thanks for the thought.
