Had bilgies and a cat before the current deep fin, so last week I dried it out against a wall in St Peter Port for the first time ever. And it feels every bit as much of an achievement as crossing Biscay for the first time!

Got to say I didn't get much sleep the night before, and once we were dried out I was tip toeing round the deck like I was walking in a minefield.

Anyway, it didn't fall over so neither did I. Virtual drinks are on me. :D:D

Pity you didn't say that earlier as I was in St PP. I'd have come over and claimed mine! I presume you were one of the 3 dried out on the West wall. I was talking to the owner of a Halberg who had taken a bit of a lean as the baulks of the scrubbing grids were a long way apart for boats with short fins.

P.S. were you the guy working on the hull in T-shirt & Y-fronts whose sartorial elegance SWMBO commented on?!

:p:p:p:p Actually it was speedos and T shirt.

Which cat were you?

P.S. Don't print the words your wife actually used or I will likely have to change my name on here:D

OOohh, that's a nice fancy rig. One of them swing wing thingies. Are you as happy with it as the salesman said you would be?:D

I remember reading the theory about them & it sure sounded like a good idea.

Generally yes. There are a few disadvantages - I currently don't have a functioning jib furler though I'm working on that. It's not possible to run halliards, reef lines or furlers back to the cockpit and the windage of the mast needs careful management when moored. On the plus side, it is very easy to handle - entirely self-tacking, can be de-powered on any point of sailing and reefing/hoisting is most easily done while heading downwind so no need to round up into heavy weather.

Efficiency is great as the sails are always close-hauled and can be let out beyond square on a broad reach. The mast also serves as storm canvas giving 1 knot per Beaufort point. (and yes, I've done 9 knots under mast).
