\'Lost at Sea\' on ITV Border

'Lost at Sea' is a brand new 7-part series on ITV Border celebrating the
courage of those who have carried out sea rescues off the coasts of our
region, and remembers the heroism and sacrifice of the many who were lost to
the sea.

Beginning on Tuesday 9th January at 7.30pm on ITV1, the series examines
notorious sea disasters throughout history to modern day and we meet some of
the unsung heroes of rescue services:

a.. Programme one looks at 'the worst ferry disaster ever to occur in
British coastal waters' - the sinking of the Princess Victoria off Stranraer
in 1953 with 133 lives lost. The stricken ferry took over three and a half
hours to sink but she was never more than 10 miles from land.
b.. Programme two features The Lusitania - the world's largest passenger
ship which was torpedoed on 7 May 1915 by a German submarine as she made her
way to Ireland. 1,198 were killed but over 200 were rescued by the Isle of
Man's Peel fishing boat, The Wanderer. The crew members received medals and
the programme tells their heroic tale.
c.. Programme three tells of Scotland's worst ever fishing disaster with
the loss of 189 men from Eyemouth and the surrounding area in October 1881.
The day, which left 73 widowed and 263 children fatherless in Eyemouth, came
to be known as Black Friday.
d.. Programme four features one of our island's greatest heroines - Grace
Darling. Her courageous rescue of nine passengers from a wrecked steamship
in 1838 at the age of just 22, has become the stuff of legend.
e.. Programme five tells of the heroism of the crew of the Portpatrick
lifeboat as they rowed 10 miles to the site of a shipping disaster on 9
October 1921.
f.. Programme six features the Ellan Vannin, the Isle of Man Steam Packet
Company ship that sank on 3 December 1909 with the loss of all 35 lives in a
terrible storm.
g.. Programme seven brings us up to date with the heroic story of the
rescue of the Coeur de Lion crew in 1993 near St Bees and the rescue of two
divers from the sea near Eyemouth in 1990.

Charlotte Dymond, Lost at Sea producer said: 'The series celebrates heroism
and acknowledges the debt we owe to the rescue services, the RNLI and the
RAF. It's also testament to the awesome power of the sea and the many
lives it has claimed off the coasts of our region.'

Re: \'Lost at Sea\' on ITV Border

At last some Border TV programmes that are slightly interesting. However they are still working on their "trawl the archives" principle.
We are stuck in a postcode lottery. In Bowness we are given Border on FreeSat, but get Granada on aerial.
Sky claim they have no power to code our card for Granada as they are licenced for certain regions by postcode.
Bollocks. It's another of their slimy ploys to try and upgrade FreeSat viewers to Subscription services.

Go to itv.com and check out your local area for half seven next Tuesday, it's not on in my area /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Good advice. It did set me a bit of a trial though as the values have changed since that page was published. At last found an up-to-date guide which led me to Granada.

(And I appologise to Sky for suggesting they were after my money.) /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

One couldn't POSSIBLY think that an organisation owned by Rupert Murdoch would only be interested in your money! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Certainly not! This well known philanthropist has offered free holidays to almost all of the past few British/Italian prime ministers. What's that if not selfless self sacrifice?
