Lost at Sea for 66 days

Coast Guard spokesperson Lt Krystyn Pecora said Jordan survived eating the food he had on his boat, by collecting rain water and using a net to catch fish. She said he managed to stay hydrated by going inside his boat's cabin a lot.

"Sometimes I had to wade through water up to my thigh because the cabin was so full of water and I had to bail hundreds of gallons out. There was often days of rain, nonstop rain, and I couldn't just dry out my clothes and my blankets," Jordan explained

The report say the boat was upright with a broken mast. It sounds like the boat was rolled.

...He was able to survive adrift in the Atlantic Ocean by drinking rainwater and eating raw fish, according to the Coast Guard. It is not yet known why the boat capsized....
Nor how he caught the fish :D

Seriously though, that's obviously great news to someone and congrats to him on such an outstanding feat.

"He read the Bible, from cover to cover, several times, to pass the time"!

If I'm ever in such a situation, I think finding food/fresh water, would give very little time for such leisure pursuits.

He seems in too good condition for having been on the hull for 66 days. - how would you even manage that. Seems more likely the boat was upright. Seems more plausible that he had water and food on board.

If the mast either snapped or the boat rolled and that snapped the mast, surely he could cut it away and set up a jury rig or turn on the engine. 200 miles isnt that far...

If it was just a snapped mast - ok the main VHF would be down if he had to cut the mast away. But do people head out without a handheld as well ? (I know the range isnt that far, but surely there'd be something within range in 66 days)

I didn't get the impression he could sail very well with the original rig, never mind design and build a jury rig and sail back with it.

Great its a big old ocean.

I recall the family spending 118 days in a liferaft,

The Whaling ship the Essex lifeboats 96days and a Lot ot two later,

The solo oarsman i met in the Mad Mongoose in Antigua who spent 3 months rowing actoss the Atlantic.

Shackletons unlikely rescue mission

Crazy what people can survive at sea on
