this will make you laugh/cry - lost anchor off the bows today. left home marina with anchor, arrived at destination no anchor - I even looked in the anchor locker!!!!. shackle had come undone sodding bolt was just sat there by the roller. make sure you check your shackle bolts

Count yourself lucky that it didn't happen with the anchor deployed, it could have then been the boat that went missing!

To 'mouse' or seize the shackle
You need seizing wire, the preferred being monel
You pass the wire through the hole in the pin and around the 'loop', ie the bit the pin screws in.
Preventing (hopefully) disappearing anchors etc

Mousing is where you put wire through the hole at the end of the pin and then through the body of the shackle to prevent it from coming undone. Many people also use a cable tie to achieve the same result. Should be done with any shackle which is subject to any load, such as anchoring or mooring.
Take a look at boats around you and most will have their anchor shackles moused.
Sorry you lost your anchor, bet it won't happen to you again!!
