Took the boat out today for a fishing trip and shake down after having my water pump refurbished. All was good, pump working perfect and no leaks. Engine ran sweet too, but the rev counter needle didn't move. My engine is a Yanmar 6lpa dte, any ideas where the sensor for the revs is located? So I can check connections etc. or any other reasons they may not be registering?? I will check the back of the dash unit for a loose connection. The engine hours ticked over still though. ?

If your tachometer pickup is on the alternator and you got it wet changing the pump (the two are very close on my engine) it maybe needs a dry out and clean up.

Same issue on my VP engine was spade type connector on sender wire on alternator fatigued/cracked .

I got this all fixed yesterday with the assistance over txt messages from Tom at Tompa marine.
Turns out the two spade connections on the sensor were a bit loose and crusty.
So a quick clean up and test saw the rev gauge burst back into life!!
