Loss of power under load

There's some not very helpful comments on here. Wise cracks.

My wife used to have a Volvo (as in the car) which developed a loss of power under load. Numerous visits to Volvo dealer. Diagnostics . more money. Replaced fuel pump. Still not fixed.
One day it got so bad we couldn't continue our journey. Called the RAC. The RAC engineer said he'd seen it several times on this model. Said it would be a leak from a hairline crack in fuel filter housing. I didn't believe him at all as there was no fuel leaking from anywhere, but as I was out of ideas , had it replaced. Sure enough, fixed it. It is possible for air to be drawing into fuel without fuel leaking out of the same hole.

Years later I had the same on a boat engine. I temporarily replaced the short length of hose from fuel filter to injector pump with clear tubing. As suspected, bubbles in the fuel under load. Traced leak back to compression fitting on brass stop cock.

Why don't you try the clear pipe trick to eliminate air in the fuel.

Best regards
