I've just noticed if I wiggle the shroud left to right on one side the spreader arm is loose . The plastic part connect to the mast looks solid but the arm seems to have 2 pins in . Could a pin on one side have came put or do they become loose o er the years.

As far as I can remember, The Cobra 850 I owned had stainless steel sockets on the mast and the spreader fitted in and was held in place by a single nut and bolt all the way through. I don't think that the spreaders were a great fit and there may have been some movement but the rigging should be tight enough to hold everything steady.

Many spreader designs, especially on earlier boats, are loose fittings held by split pins. The important thing is to ensure that the wire is free to slide past the spreader so least friction between spreader and wire. But, a climb up the mast may be necessary to ensure spreaders are ok.

yes that's how it is after doing a bit of research i think one of the shrouds has been loose and caused a bit of resonating in the wind and maybe the holes for the 2 pins have become exaggerated.
