Hello All,

I've just moved to Brighton from Portsmouth where I was studying for the past three years for my degree (I'm originally from Bristol). Having just finished university and two years with the University Royal Naval Unit in Southampton and Portsmouth. I am now looking for a way to get back onto the water for some sailing. My experience sailing under wind is minimal and based solely in the Solent.

However with the URNU I have sailed around the UK, into the Orkney Islands, the Channel Islands, and Northern France under power in a P2000 patrol craft. This involved a number of pilotages, paper chart work, Electronic chart work, watch-leading (under-supervision), night sailing, ship/light recognition, cooking at sea, as well as small amounts of diesel engine maintenance. I would be very interested in partnering up or working with a skipper/crew in the East Sussex, West Sussex or Hampshire area in order to enjoy some good company, sailing, as well as to learn, with an idea of tackling a longer voyage in the following year(s)

Can also make damn good wets!(If I do say so myself).

Have you been to the sailing club in the marina? (very nice new clubhouse).

They are very friendly and always need crew for racing - will be a good way to meet local skippers.

Hello thank you for the replies. Work has kept me busy but as per I have filled a lot of my time with daydreaming about sailing.

I have got in contact with the brighton marina yacht club regarding membership and hope to hear a reply soon.

this move to go sailing was sparked by watching the documentary Maidentrip a few years ago. It is my absolute dream to circumnavigate the world and I see this as but the first step to that. I don't want to spend my life behind a desk on shore. I want to see the world and experience it all whilst it's still there to be done. many are calling me young, and a little nuts but honestly I just want to sail the world. The rainy day fund has been transfered to the boat fund.

If anyone can help or advise with options please do.
