I may have a portofino 31 boat soon and I was thinking of buying a pair of the above motors to put in it. Any advice. Price etc. Is it worthwhile. All advice appreciated as i'm new in the boating scene. Thanks.
Are you buying the boat with no engines ?
What engine did it have ?
Why kad44? is that because they are available?
What sterndrives come with the boat ? Are they suitable for the engine choice?
Buying a boat with no engines was the idea martyn but it's looking far too complicated now so I don't think I'll go for it.
But tomorrow I will go see a portofino 31.
It's just a first look before I send in a person with engine and boat experience to look at it.
So I have a question!
What should I look for on first initial viewing.I'm a newbie so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Also what questions should ask so I can get a general idea of the boat.
You'll get a good idea of how well it's been looked after by looking at it's general condition and how clean the engine bay is. Important to find out it's service history.
Portofino 31 was my first "big" boat. Many happy memories. Great hull and AQAD41 engines have a fairly bulletproof reputation. No fancy electronics.
Keep on top of servicing outdrives and motors and you should be good. Out of experience turbo's are worn after 10 years and will not give max boost. Half price if you buy OEM.
