Evening,

My boat is in need of some work, which will include the engine being removed, she is a CC 33ft Moody.

Im looking to get her on the hard for approx 3 months to complete this work. Currently she is in Ipswich.

Now I have looked at all the likely targets on the Orwell, including my home marina Debbage, but thought I would ask to see if anyone local has other ideas to fill my need? Most seem to want fixed rate, paid in full for the winter period. A basic monthly yard fee would suit me best.

I haven't looked into places on the Deben, any average price difference?

Any info would be great, in a nutshell i want cheap :-)

Thanks for the replys

Shotley will do monthly for £19 per metre. Might be worth calling them and seeing if they'll do a 3 month deal.

Shall email now, thanks.

Titchmarsh would certainly have room and facilities, but maybe that would involve a longer drive for you.

Yes, bit too much of a hike.

Hi Matt,

Sounds to me as though Dick Larkman's yard at Melton is what you're looking for (Is Dick still around? - I guess he must be retired now, but the yard's still there):

Had emailed Larkmans last night, they do a season price only its seems.

Emailed a few other of the Woodbridge based yards, Melton being very competitive at just over the £100 mark on a monthly basis.

Getting her round to the Deben is another matter.....

I think your ability to obtain reasonable overall storage costs will depend on how much work you are giving the yard. If you just want lift out and storage and will do all the work yourself, then the yard is obviously only selling parking space and if they can sell their capacity in 4 or 5 month blocks paid in adavnce then they will.
If you give a good chunk of work to the yard such as replacing the engine, then they will generally not charge for liftout/in and will charge hardstanding by the week , during which time you can do other DIY jobs such as polishing, anti-fouling etc.

Another Yard you can look at is Melton boatyard run by the Skeet family, it is at the top pf the Deben next to Larkmans. It is easier for lifting in and out than Larkmans as they have easier hoisting facilities.

Hi Andrew, I spoke with Melton yesterday and prices are the best so far.

I used them for 9 months storage ashore when refitting a previous boat 12 years ago. The yard was a bit run down, but I'm glad they are still going rather than sold out to a housing developer. I did a lot of work DIY, used two outside contractors and used them for some work, they seemed OK with that arrangement and to be honest didn't have the capacity to do everything themselves.

I took my boat out on Sat from the ferry boatyard. Was it your moody I saw near the slip in the slings ?
