hi guys, im looking for someone to help me with my boat, its a quicksilver weekend 855 diesel, and she will be in Chichester harbour in 2 weeks, ive only ever used a boat in spain which was 2 metres shorter , and I dont have any experience at all of the uk waters, never mind the solent, im not looking for a freebie, but maybe a handful of people I could call on at different times to come out onto the water with me.Im prepared to pay for your time, and experience, as im not comfortable at this moment in time going out on this boat on my own. Thankyou, one terrified female.....

Why not book a Powerboat Level 2 course using your own boat? You'll learn a lot more with proper instruction with someone fully qualified and insured to help you.
Agree with this.

K, whether it's a formal course or not, "Own Boat" tuition from a paid pro is the way to go, it's going to be about £275-£300/day or thereabout but worth every penny. Try Mendez Marine (Vanessa McCabe your contact). If you don't want to follow a specific course, the content of the day(s) can be adapted to suit whatever you want to achieve.

Already booked a day with chichester marine training .,

I have a powerboat 2 and probably can't add much except I have been boating in UK for years.

However if you just want 1 experienced crew (and 1 totally inexperienced one) for a day sometime I'd happily come down for a day on the water - absolutely free!

I am quite sure far more experienced offers will be forthcoming soon mind....

sounds perfect to me, crew is what I need, thanks I will pm you

I’d be happy to help out. Whilst I have various pieces of paper from the RYA, I’m no expert so definitely agree with posts above to get some professional tuition. I can certainly help as crew though whilst you build your confidence. Fenders/lines no problem!

I also know the Solent reasonably well. Have had my boat in Southampton for 6yrs & have been to most places between Poole & Chichester (have stopped at Sparkes a few times, also Northney) so can offer some guidance on the area.

I wouldn’t expect any money…an excuse/opportunity for time on the water is good enough for me :)

A local professional trainer is a really good move, the main issue you will have in Chi harbour is your tides and the lack of water at low tide with the mud and sand banks, two boats went aground just outside Portsmouth harbour yesterday morning on the Hamilton bank, so a reeds almanac with a read up before visiting a new harbour is a good move. A friend visited Pompey and hadnt realised there was a small boat channel and wondered why the cross channel ferry got so close to him he also had no idea there was a submarine barrier or where it was !

A couple of trips out with some locals after your training session would be a good move.

Sounds good, I will PM you, its great that a handful of people have come along and offered help, it works both ways, I learn from your experience and you get a free day out on the water! its a win win situation ! I also believe there is more than one way of skinning a cat as my dad used to say, so having a handful of people who want to help, I will learn so much I think, I will send you my phone number etc, and thankyou

If you do take out people you don't know for the day, can I suggest you get a copy of I'D beforehand so you can tell people "this is who I am going out with today" and get (and use beforehand) a mobile number for them.
Just for your personal safety.

Flipping things around, those offering help could end up shackled in a windowless dungeon in Chichester, knitting and sewing bed linen.
:D

So 'Own Boat Tuition' was done on the 9th, and Chichester Marine Training were brilliant, and I will be booking some more with them.I will be in touch with you guys via private message to see when we can go out on my boat, exciting times a year, I love Chichester Marina, and the harbour its absolutely stunning, I practiced docking at Itchenor, and we were out on a F4/5i was very please with myself, so onwards and upwards!
