On the Belgium mobo forum is a youg chap who has build a nice wooden boat 3 years ago,
now he wants to go bigger (just like most of us ;))
and wants to build a copy of a Riva Aquarama,

anybody on here has a copy of orriginal drawings ?

Don't let our Volos friend see this, he will want to build one in his " spare " time. !!

I think it will be slightly too large as your tender Vas.

No spare time atm SF I'm afraid!

You're right, it's too big for a tender, but I really love it this boat!

Bart, if you do get hold of some drawings, I wouldn't mind a 3D model!
I can scale it down 1:10 most likely @1:12 and cut the frames on our laser cutter out of 3mm ply then built it together with the kids at home and fit it nicely with a 20K rpm engine like we did with rc cars and aeroplanes when young
My 12yo maybe not that impressed, but daughter and myself will definitely be :D

cheers

Thanks folks for the links and the advice !
Timothy has got now orriginal drawings of that Riva but some important dimensions are missing,
so with this info/ links he might get these dims.

Vas, don't you fancy a 3D model from Mitos ?
again a nice thesis job for one of your students ? :)

Good news Bart,

If I could be of any help in guessing dimensions let me know. There's a piece of s/w called Imagemodeler (by AutoDesk) that's v.good at making 3D models out of a series of photos. Maybe that would help also

I've already built a crude model myself. Thing is unless I rip off the cabin floors I cannot get accurate dimensions for the frame. The hull is easy afterwards as it's the outer skin of the frame +15 or 18mm (don't know yet haven't drilled any holes, next week...)

I should complain, both you and rafiki consider students as something valueless and disposable. Unfortunately, these days they are not :D

fyi
each year we have here students in the company for thesises
(electro mechanical / electronics engineers) from the nearby univ. / highschool

our observation / experience is that:
You can't get any benifit from that if you don't invest time and energy from our side.

in very few occasion we have a practical usefull result for the company
for the students the result is usually very good

but we like to be in touch with the school, new technology, networking, etc, ...
and every now and them, some of these students starts working for the company. :)

You're right Bart,

also occasionally struggling with them working on research projects, but once you choose carefully and invest some time on them, they are fine.

BTW, if the Riva drawings are digital (2D is fine, a 3D can be easily done out of them!) I'd like a copy if he doesn't mind

cheers

Vas

I'm Timothy, the person Bart was talking about.
I totally don't mind to sent you a copy of the plans. The plans I have at the moment I bought here. http://www.riva-ersatzteile.de/product_info.php?products_id=1897 . As you can see they are very big. At the moment I don't have them digital, but I'll try to get digital.

Do you think you can help me to get some more exact measurement of the frames? (imagemodeller??) That would be so great. I'm really looking for more than a year now.
Because, the problem with all the 3D dimension plans you can buy on the internet is that the amount of frames is not the same as on these original drauwings. So they are missing 2-3 frames over the whole length of the boat. This is also the reason why I don't believe they are real if I compare this with my drauwings where I can see they are drawn by Riva.
