Several years ago I came across a picture of a small yacht built to circumnavigate. If I recallIt was a 20bfooter more a motorboat hull with a customized deck and it was junk rigged and it was. Sailed by a Sir somebody any ideas..... thinking of a retirement boat. Thanks

Henry's small yacht is Glory - she is based on a standard Colvic Watson 19'6" hull which Henry then finished off himself to his own design.

Here is a photo of her :

And here is a rather poor (re resolution) copy of an article in PBO from 15 years ago.

I had the pleasure of meeting Henry on Glory when she was moored up the Wareham river in Poole Harbour 20+ years ago - I think he had recently returned from his latest Atlantic cruise, where he sailed out to the Caribbean, went through Panama and then trundled north up to San Francisco to attend a friend's birthday party. And then he sailed home again afterwards.
Following on from this, Glory's annual summer cruise was usually just a little jaunt from Poole up to the Shetlands which Henry did every year for a number of years (I think his daughter lived in the Shetlands then).
Henry must be in his 90's now, and I hope that he is still sailing.

are you going to do it then?

adapt one and sail long distance - what a treat

keep a good blog

I will follow it

.. well I don't think I will get much for my old Vega and if the infernal combustion engine gives out I see plenty of scope for alterations, but not necessarily with vast ocean crossings in view.Surprising amount of space in a small boat if you take out the inboard engine and all the paraphanalia.Had a 27 footer that moved quite well under oar and sail

Hats off to the man for doing it but why on earth use a boat that is so slow it needs a big diesel and loads of fuel to get anywhere?
