Looking for grandparents' boat! Thirty years ago...

Hi,

I have no idea where to start. So, here!

"Matkaya", a white monohull, single mast (perhaps 38ft??) owned by Sidney and Mary Smith (my grandparents) - based in the 80s in Beaulieu.

That's about all I know - advice on how to find current owners (if she's still afloat!) would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to see her again, but also have lots of photos of the boat from the 60s onwards that I'd prefer to give to them rather than throw away...

So, worth five minutes if I can achieve that aim!

According to the internet, there is a Matkaya based at Marchwood Yacht Club at the top of Southampton Water.

If the name has been changed, which is very possible, your description is going to be far to vague. Perhaps stick a picture up on here and someone may be able to identify make and model, which may help.

Yes: once model identified: there may well be an owners association that could help. There is a UK based 'Matkaya' listed on the MARS ITU radio licence database, owners name Etheridge. Doesn't help you contact them though unless they are listening on VHF, but worth trying Marchwood YC.
