I’m hoping someone can help. I’m looking for suggestions for somewhere in Europe I can drive to where I can use my 4m rib and outboard.

I’m looking for a area of sheltered waters that we can explore on the coast. (not river), although very large lake would work.

Someone suggested the Ill De Ray on the French coast – anyone think this is a good place for this type of boating? I looked on Google Earth and it looked a little exposed.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We could travel as far as northern Spain.

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

Holland. Excellent for small boat cruising, plenty of launch sites, interesting places to go. Better weather than UK in summer. Either in the south in the Ooste Schelde area or up in the north in the Ijsselmeer.

Golfe du Morbihan. Described as an "Inland Sea" , covering about 50 sq miles with many islands and anchorages. Also the surrounding parts of the S. Brittany Coast

Stick that or Gulf of Morbihan into Google earth and see what yo think.

2nd that been there several times with a 7 metre boat endless places to visit also 2 islands 8 miles offshore if weather settled

3rd the Golfe, depending on your night arrangements, lots of campsites. But be aware, there are some serious tidal currents (up to 10kts) in some areas. Not a prob if your outboard is big enough. The Isl de Re is very nice, and very expensive. The waters are not challenging and there are other islands to visit. Fantastic beaches. Late july and august a bit crowded. I often launch at Fouras and they don't charge at many slips.

The east side of the isl d'Oleron has a few places too and some good beaches, the west side is more exposed so better for surfers... Further south, Arcachon has possibilities and there are some big lakes connected by canals. The land is flatter there, nothing like the rocky stuff in Brittany which always reminds me of Cornwall.

That was going to be my suggestion before you beat me to it!

Nearby is Quiberon bay, usually very sheltered and attractive plus the offshore islands our favourite being Houat. Wish I was there now............

Do you have an ICC? In Spain for a 4m boat, legally you would need an ICC and 3rd party insurance and the dinghy would need to be on the SSR. Dont know about France.
Our insurance company (N&G) provides cover for my dinghy and o/b in Spain as part of my yacht policy at no extra cost.
