Does anyone know the whereabouts of a boat restorer called Chris in the Brighton area? I am told he may know the fate of the 42ft timber TSDY Jacamanda which my family owned in the late 1960s. A hotelier sold the vessel to him for restoration.

Have you any photos of Jacamanda you could post? I followed the MoBo thread & like others have a feeling I've seen the name somewhere. From what you mentioned previously and Lloyds Register I gather built on Oulton Broad by F Newson in 1962 (who's adverts at the time were mainly for Broads hire cruisers) but you also mentioned Beechams (known for their Seariders several of which are on the Thames).

Here are 2 pictures of Jacamanda at launch in 1972

This may not be the correct way to insert images - I have never done it before!

A friend who has kept his boat in Brighton & Shoreham for many years & had restored by Terry Pachol (retired but well known Brighton based wooden boat restorer) will ask Terry & his contacts in Shoreham to see what he can find, but did say a call to the marina office might be a good start. Images very helpful, will pass these on.

My friend Chris contacted Terry Pachol today. He says he quoted for work on Jacamanda at Brighton incl rot to decks aprox 1991. Chris has one more contact to ask (an electrician who has been there a long time) but feels the office at the marina may be the best source. As a matter of interest (& this will help you in the search) I went to Tewkesbury marina aprox 15 years ago, and in the marina office, up the stairs they had lots of photo's of the boats Beechams had built over the years.

The photographs I have posted are of a print handed to us by Jim Beecham after we purchased Jacamanda only to discover she had been fitted out by Beecham where we were already a customer! He was murdered shortly afterwards along with his wife and inlaws by his son Paul. The yard changed hands soon afterwards and subsequently became Tewkesbury Marina.

Thanks for enquiring for me.

After twelve years in Broadmoor, Paul was released and married, becoming a Rotarian. However, when news of his past leaked out, he shot himself. His wife's body was discovered buried under the patio.

I know the full story and have a newspaper cutting. I owned his Moonfleet speed boat called Sputnik which he sold before marrying his first wife. He was a strange character and there are suspicions that he may have committed other unsolved murders.

Anyway this is not helping me to re-discover Jacamanda!

As a matter of interest I have compiled a register of the boats which I know were built by Beecham Marine during the 1960s and early 70s. Just a word document which I am always happy to share with anyone who's interested.
