looking for cheep fish finder to use as depth sounder

anyone got an idea which one is best , i have a seafarer transducer in the hull but unsure if it works mick

For use with the Seafarer transducer it will have to be one operating at 150kHz and will be a simple echo sounder

Nasa Marine echosounders are compatible.

Might be a bit more money than you want to spend but the Garmin fishfinder range is good and comes with a transducer designed to be hung under a trolling outboard but in practice works well when siliconed to the inside of the hull as long as your hull is solid and not cored. there are plenty of threads on how to do this recommending everything from blutack to baby oil as the medium - clear cheap silicone did it for me.

Blimey - that's cheap... have you tried the sonar through the hull??

Must admit I haven't - the boat was up on bricks in the yard when I bought it so I just dangled it over a pontoon. I assume it would work through the hull at least in shallow water where I need it; if not I could probably rig up something to hang it off the swim step. I should probably test it, but it's currently sealed inside a watertight tin box along with a handheld GPS and a bulk pack of AA batteries to run them both :)

I used to use the entry level Lowrance fishfinder with the transducer mounted on a stick fixed to the outboard bracket

for 30 quid more i found thishttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Lowrance-Mark-4-Chartploter-Fishfinder-Transducer/dp/B00FPQYFL4/ref=sr_1_13?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1440653221&sr=1-13&keywor ive used nasa depth but found them unreliable . the idea to use a fishfinder is to see whats under the boat as well as depth (chart plotter a bonus)
