Hi. I'm trying to find a good electrician to install some Raymarine kit on my boat in Antibes in July and was wondering if any of the eminent members of this forum might have any recommendations?

In normal times I’d ask my usual (fantastic) sparky from the Hamble to travel down, but in these days of quarantine and travel risks that's difficult to organise, so need to think of alternatives.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated (it’s about a week’s work). Thanks.

Bit of a minefield tbh finding a decent boat tech @ long range down there !

Past 15 years on the Cote d Azur I have found there are 4 types of boat tech .
1- expensive but good ok ish no issues with the job it’s just ridiculously dear when totted up .
2- as above but indifferent attitude, unreliable.
3- A bit cheaper kinda shoddy , messy and do more damage making a mess .....not really in the end a cost saving .
4 - word and mouth recommendations from the dealers .Tend to be 24/24 hrs , excellent workmanship reliable , contactable always reply etc etc .Fair pricing as well what you would expect and be prepared to pay , pass on trade discounts.

This guy is in group 4 .Pic is from Antibes btw he’s Italian the van is on Italian plates and the big ( usual suspects ) boat dealers use him on the CdA .
I have used him a few times he is calked Enzo .
.Learnt to sway away from Fr as they see you as a cash cow .
You have been warned .

I can recommend Stephane Mero. He has done fairly complex Raymarine installations/upgrades on two of my previous boats and I was very happy with the work. He was initially recommended to me by Sunseeker and is also used by them when their own maintenance people are overloaded. He works closely with Enzo, the guy recommended by Portofino, when more complex electrical modifications are needed.

I can reiterate all the comments made by Porto ... don't expect them to be cheap or to haggle on prices or rates. In my experience, components are usually marked up on the manufacturer's RRP rather than discounted and the good ones are always very busy, especially at this time of year (and even more so because of Covid19).
