I am looking at taking my boat out for winter storage and also so I can pull her out mid season for a clean and polish - I priced up getting the marina to do this and it works out about £1000 per year for 2 lifts - movement to the storage area and chocking up, so I am investigating buying a trailer to use the slipway (with a tractor) - my local dealer has several trailers and tractors and will pull me out when one is free for a day or two but not for longer term storage (they tend to use heavy duty USA Aluminium trailers that they acquired over the years as Chaparral dealers). I have a price for a new trailer but they are expensive so was wondering if anyone comes across a big trailer to let me know ? - or any other options - cheers

Custom made? Local welding shop maybe. Doesn’t need to be road legal

Yes this could be a possibility, but in deep darkest North Wales not sure if I could find someone willing to take it on - I am going to visit my local fabrication shop but would need to factor in delivery ?

I’ve reached out to the chap that bought my previous boat to see if he will part with the trailer. That would be a perfect trailer. Only had one careful owner ??

Your old one would be perfect, that is exactly what I am looking for, and happy that the new owner is ‘Careful’ ??

To be honest….I’d have one made. my old trailer certainly wasn’t a complicated construction. Not even full width axles….just stumpies. Lots of U bolts too. By Christ it was strong though….the big aluminium H sections are the key I reckon

Yes the Aluminium USA style are fantastic trailers, so light and strong that’s what my dealer uses - I have seen two trailers made so far for my boat - one by Extreme the other by SBS

Unfortunately the owner of my old one doesn’t want to part with it….sorry. I tried!

the extreme one looks good. Bet it’s not cheap though! Twin axle would be better as tri axle is a bugger to turn ?

ill keep my eye out on eBay etc… as they do come up here and there

looks good, I have heard triple axle are hard to turn twins are better - will ask them the load and length from bow stay to bunk ?
they are but 3 axles gives you the weight capability. Doubt your boat would work on the trailer I linked to as is but if the axles where moved right to the back and bunks extended…..you might have a chance. Nose weight doesn’t really matter on a yard trailer using a tractor so you could get it right forward Plus 3 axle gives a longer load bearing base so less nose weight anyway. It’s really about having the axles in the right place for the boats balance.

you can see the axles are very near the end of the trailer then the bunks go out a good deal further

The boat needed to be forward a bit on the trailer in that shot but the trailer frame stopped well before the boat / engines did!

I made my own plate to replace bent ones. Much stronger than the oe ones…..which doesn’t say much but all seems to work no issue. big long bunks is defo the way to go too.

I guess my point is…..the trailer frame doesn’t have to be the same length as the boat with a tri axle trailer IMHO. I’m not talking road legal trailers obviously.

where I do see an issue is any uk trailer is max 2.55m wide. This one was 3.3m from memory. I still think custom made or convert an existing 3 axle is a good way to go.

I have spoken with the guy selling the 3 axle, he had a 9m on it but with traditional bow so the hull length on the trailer was smaller - he is going to measure tonight as the bow support will move forward
