A long shot i know but I'm looking for a grp dinghy, about 8foot. We're moving from Tollesbury to Felixstowe ferry in March having to get used to a swinging mooring again and all that goes with it. We just need something cheap, watertight and stable to leave on the beach (so nothing posh),

Happy to pick up within reasonable distance of Wivenhoe or Tollesbury.

I;ve got a tatty 7' GRP stem dinghy looking for a new home. It needs a bit of TLC to be honest so I wouldn't be looking for a lot of money for it. It's upside down on the bank at North Fambridge Yacht Station at the moment, to the left of the car park (it's the blue hulled one, I think there's a couple lying around there).

It does need the woodwork around the rowlocks sorting out (at least, the rest is cosmetic) but there's a set of galvanised rowlocks with it and I've got a pair of virtually new oars (which I'll want a bit more cash for but again we're talking oars that were about £30 new)

As the risk of appearing to compete, I have a small pram in my garage. I think it is 8ft but haven't measured it and it may be 7. It is very light and was made at Maylandsea and we used it for many years for the 1/4 hr trip to our mooring there. My wife would like to see the back of it. Wivenhoe. Price negotiable but if you offer too much I'll be peeved.
 
No worries about competition :), mine doesn't owe me anything and it's not going to get any worse so it can lie there until the day it can do somebody a cheap favour!
 
This might come across as a bit cheeky, so I apologise in advance. I was down the boat today discussing the vexed question of 'where to store the b****y inflatable' when my old Mum suggested getting rid of it and replacing it with a small, light, pram dinghy. The inflateable is a pain to store on board and her idea, which may have merit, is to tow a little dinghy rather then faff around with the blow-up.

If the pram dinghys are seriously surplus to requirements could Johnalison and/or Erbas drop me a PM with a price? Might solve a problem.

The one I've got is a stem tender, not a pram. It does tow OK though.

Drawback of dragging a dinghy round behind you is it does slow you down a bit though

I've no idea on price, it needs attention to the woodwork (a DIY doable job though) and it's a case of it being worth what somebody thinks it's worth
 
As there was no indication that you had done so I do not see how I could have been expected to have known you had expressed an interest in either if those dinghies. I like to think of the ECF as a haven of good manners and polite behaviour. I would never intentionally 'step on toes' here.

If I have offended your obviously delicate and fragile sensibilities then you have my sincere apologies.

Now, now, chaps! Two dinghys, two potential buyers, zero problems!

Steve couldn't know about the PM communications, Tia needn't worry cos as Steve rightly points out this is the ECF aka The Friendly Forum

Tia by rights has first dibs (on mine anyway, it's not my place to speak for the other dinghy)
 
Thanks Erbas, of course, I couldn't agree with you more. I was just a little taken aback by Tia's tone of typing and his/her implied suggestion that I was 'jumping in'.

Anyway, I further apologies as it was apram we were thinking of as one might just fit on the coach.

I trust normal good relations on the ecf are restored. Firstly i would agree with Erbas that towing a hard dinghy can be a pain, tending to overtake and ram you in a following sea, and snatch at the painter, it's also quite a drag, however we did it for many years before inflatables were affordable, albeit losing one at night off beachy head when the eyebolt sheared in a bad sea. (Shame, that was the 50th Optimist OP50). Maurice Griffiths had a lot to say about towing dinghies in his books, mostly not favourable.

I'm hoping to look at Erbas` today or tomorrow and Johnalisons as soon as convenient to him and will hapily share my decision here.

Many thanks, we're planning to pop down this afternoon, not sure exactly what time but probably between 2 and 4. I'll give you a call when we're on the way but first I have to head off to Braintree now to help my daughter with some DIY stuff.

By the way, we still have the Sabre 27 handbook from the owners association, its of no use to us- would you like it?

I have got a copy of the Sabre manual although it has sprung it's thingies and ended up in a random pile of A4 paper on the floor! I keep meaning to sorry it out

I can be round the yacht station in about ten minutes from here. No problem
